MegaTen Dictionary of Terms (still being updated)
Note: If you have any terms you want to ask about, this is the place.
Angel. A sub-type of demon that tends to be lawful in nature. There are several types of these, leading from generic Angels right up to the Seraphs who directly serve God.
Demon. This is the blanket term used for all non-human supernatural beings. It covers angels, gods and much else in the world. However, it is explained many times that demons only take their appearances from the minds of humans, meaning that they are not actually the gods of belief. A demon can become a "god" by gaining a massive amount of belief from humans, and "gods" can also be born from this belief, resulting in the creation of gods such as the false god Aradia.
Devil Summoner. This is a title given to all those who have the ability to a) communicate with, b) recruit, and c) command demons. This can be via the Demon Summoning Program, through their own innate abilities, or by demonic powers. As a result, even demons can be devil summoners.
Macca/Makka. This is money from the Abyss in the first and second games, and just generally used in any demon-centric world from then on. While the Persona spinoffs, being set in the real world, tend to use yen, macca is a very valuable resource in the other games. The only other currency used by demons is gems and these are only really valid when traded to Rags for other goods.
Magatsuhi and Magnetite are presumably the same thing under different names. This is the source of demon powers and thus an important resource. In Devil Summoner, Magnetite has to be drawn from demons or items in order to use magic, but in other games it relies on the caster's innate abilities. However, magnetite is still used in the first two games for summoning demons. In the third game, magatsuhi is shown to be born from human emotions and a large quantity of it has to be gathered in order to summon "god"-type demons.
Rags is a demon who will sell demons and rare items to people in exchange for gems.
The Abyss is the realm of demons. There are nine different areas, connected by three corridors. Yesod is the first area, and this is the area that Aleph first arrives in when entering by the "front door". Yesod is connected to the Yetzirah Corridor, which also connects to Hod, Netzach and Tiphereth. The Beriah Corridor from Tiphereth leads to Geburah and Chesed, while the Atziluth Corridor leads from Geburah to Binah and Chokmah. Kether is the final area. These areas are named after the Sephirot - as is Malkuth. The names of the corridors are also a reference to the planes of existence that connect to God.
Kether Castle is the home of Lucifer. It is very hard to get to and an invitation to it cannot be refused.
Malkuth is the name given to the human world by the demons. This was abandoned in later games; the demons merely refer to it as "earth" after this.
YHVH. Contrary to popular beliefs, this isn't the Christian God. This is the Origin of All Gods who is the source of inspiration for God. He is a bit of a prick and very fed up with humanity in general.
Amala. This is the name of the universe that only exists outside of the many Vortex Worlds. The Amala Network is a series of tunnels within it that connect areas in the Tokyo Vortex World.
The Labyrinth of Amala, however, is essentially what the humans of that world refer to as the "netherworld". It is home to many demons.
The God of Falsehood, Aradia is a god that was born from the prayers of persecuted witches. A god with limited power, she could only preach and lie to bring hope, rather than doing anything to help her followers. She came to the Tokyo Vortex World in the hopes of gaining the power of Creation.
3 Wise Men. These mysterious beings appeared to attempt to guide the inhabitants of the Red Sprite to the path of law. It is implied that they are archangels in disguise, as this has happened in the past.
Blue Jet. This was Jiminez's ship, destroyed during the crashlanding into the Schwarzwelt.
Elve. This was one of the ships sent into the Schwarzwelt, and the one that held the majority of the scientists. It was possessed by Horkos at one point.
Gigantic. This ship disappeared after being sent into the Schwarzwelt
Red Sprite. The main of the four ships sent in, and the only one to remain functional.
Rosetta. This "core" of demons was granted by Mem Aleph to four of her children. It allowed safe passage between planes for the inhabitants of the Red Sprite
Schwarzwelt. This name was given to the gigantic black mass that attempted to swallow the earth. Within it were several pocket dimensions where demons resided.
